12. Who would you say is your “anti” role model? Someone who serves as a warning rather than an inspiration?
This is a hard one! I mean, hmm. There are people that I do not want to write like, and that I do not want to have an online presence like. Like, please let me never be as tooly as Jonathan Franzen. I’ve also seen some writers online who have behaved completely abominably in response to questions or criticism, and I have to hope I’ll never wind up like that. But naming names, on the internet, always feels like it’s asking for trouble. But certainly there are archetypal figures I’m all over anti-modeling myself on! If that’s a word.
30. List 5 quirky things about yourself.
- Does ukulele count as quirky anymore? I’ve been playing the ukulele for about three months, and I dig it! If we need more quirky, I played bassoon for a year in middle school, and oboe for about five years too.
- I am a pretty laid-back traveler. I would be way happier just wandering around a city than having a set itinerary. I like train travel for its own sake, for looking out the window. I am hoping to do some of it in the near future, circumstances allowing.
- I don’t drink coffee! I mean, I have, once, but it was an accident. Even though I worked in a coffee shop all through college.
- My style of cooking is best described as “tragicomic.” I have actually ended up with batter on the ceiling in an attempt to make gingerbread (forgot the ginger too).
- I have pretty small hands and feet for how tall I am (5’10”). In high school, there was a girl I was friends with who was nearly a foot shorter than me, and our hands were the same size. (We called each other Stubs 1 and Stubs 2.)
