I have seen it. Parts were enjoyable, and I think Julie Taymor is a fascinating artist, but I thought it was very uneven. Mostly I wanted to like it more, but then again, I find The Tempest a really hard text to swallow from the outset. It’s far from one of my favorites. Ben Whishaw’s Ariel is really strange and excellent, though. Djimon Hounsou’s Caliban is also a highlight, in that his performance makes you terrifically sad and uncomfortable.
