WHY did Henry IV EVER think Hotspur was a good subject/could be a good king?
He’s so full of himself, impatient, stubborn! Even in just the first act Henry IV is DELIBERATELY IGNORING things that would otherwise make Hotspur treasonous! I mean, yeah, he does say at the end “GIVE ME THE PRISONERS OR YOUR HEAD” but I mean c’mon he really loves THIS guy? This guy who doesn’t seem to really plan, jumps into things without thinking ANYTHING through, and lets his anger take hold of him, his emotions run him, to the point where he becomes very rash? HE JUST LEFT THE KING’S CHAMBER AND HE’S ALREADY SHOUTING OUT TO THE HEAVENS LET’S TALK TREASON BOYS.
Honestly. Hotspur, as king? Probably an AWFUL idea.
