Edward Gorey : PBS Mystery opening

This was my favorite cartoon when I was little.

By the way, if you didn’t know that Vintage Sesame existed, now you do.

They showed this last night at the Studs Terkel 100th birthday party — a fabulous short animation about the wonder of the human voice.

MY FAVORITE. Oh Hercule. This opening, along with theMystery!intro itself, as animated by Edward Gorey, was my favorite TV show as a kid.

sugarbooty:

this is worth every second of watch.

I never saw The Help, and I’ve never watched Viola Davis or Octavia Spencer’s work, but I was completely riveted and drawn in with this conversation, which is so, so important on so many axes. Jasika Nicole speaks the truth: this is absolutely worth every second, and I was upset when the video cut off. More of this conversation!

(Also, since watching this, Viola Davis has become Penelope in my space version of the Odyssey, because holy cats, lady! Holy cats, you are riveting! And Octavia Spencer, I want you to rise up and rule Hollywood now. I’m so glad I know more about these amazing ladies.)
